How do I change the ink in my Canon MG4250 printer?
To change the ink in a Canon MG4250 printer, you will first need to access the cartridge carriage. To reach it, you should ensure that the power is on and that the paper tray is retracted, then open the cover behind the paper tray. The carriage containing the ink cartridge will then slide into a position where it can be accessed – make sure that it has completely stopped moving before you touch anything. Next, identify which cartridge needs to be replaced – black is on the right and colour is on the left. Push down on the cartridge to be replaced until it clicks out of position. It can then be removed by sliding it out of the holder at a downward angle. Prepare the new cartridge by ensuring that any transport clips or protective films have been removed. Slide the new cartridge into the holder at the same angle that you removed the old one and push the new cartridge up until it clicks into position. If necessary, repeat with the second cartridge. Don’t leave either of the cartridge slots empty for longer than necessary, as this can damage the printer. When you are done, close the cover and the printer will automatically prepare the cartridges for printing.
Do Canon ink cartridges dry up?
All ink cartridges will dry up eventually, and Canon cartridges are no exception. As a rule, it is safe to assume that a factory sealed cartridge will be good for three years, and with correct storage can easily last longer (the ideal storage location is a cool, dark place with no excessive humidity).
A cartridge that has been removed from its packaging will dry out quickly (weeks, rather than years), as will a cartridge sitting in an unused printer. A partially used cartridge that is removed from the printer will dry out in days, as will the residual ink in the print head – never leave a printer with an empty cartridge slot, or the print head may be permanently damaged.
If you don’t use your inkjet printer for a long time, you should turn it on every two or three weeks and allow the cleaning process to run before turning it off again.
