Are all Canon Pixma ink cartridges the same?
No! There are many different Canon Pixma printers, and several different ranges of cartridges for them – it is vital that you have the correct cartridge for your printer, they are not all the same. For example, the PG-545 and CL-546 cartridges shown on this page look identical to the PG-540 and CL-541 cartridges, but they are not interchangeable.
How do I know which Canon Pixma I have?
You can tell which Canon Pixma printer you have by checking the model number on the printer itself – this is usually in one of two places. On models with the control panel on the top of the printer (such as the MG2550S) then the model number is above the controls on the left. Printers with the control panel on the front have the model number at the bottom right of the panel.
Note that commercial images of Pixma printers will have no visible model number. This is because there are many versions of each model, which look identical, so the model number is removed from the image allowing a single image to be used to advertise many different printers.
Is it OK to use non-Canon ink cartridges?
Yes, you can use compatible ink cartridges in your Canon printer, it’s not necessary to purchase Canon originals. At Printerinks we sell a range of compatible inks and toners which are guaranteed to work with your printer. All the cartridges shown on this page are suitable for the MG2550 printer, look out for the items described as “compatible” – these cost less and will produce the same results.
